Earth Day

Earth Day is an important annual reminder to honor the environment. Just as DARA Artisans strives to preserve the beauty of craftsmanship, we also care deeply about preserving the beauty of our planet. Eco-friendly fashion and home decor have made major strides in the last decade, embracing sustainability and new technologies without sacrificing sophisticated style. These seven artisans make it easy to shop green.

  • Aiayu

This Danish knitwear company manufactures 95% of its products with llama wool, which is a naturally sustainable fiber. In order to further ensure minimal environmental damage in the production process, Aiayu implemented its own water treatment plant. The Aiayu factory also uses natural gas as its primary energy source.

  • Dominik Woods

Dominik cutting boards are crafted from individually sourced pieces of walnut, maple, and birds-eye maple wood. With each purchase, the company makes a donation to plant a tree in support of various reforestation programs throughout the United States. This sustainable growth initiative celebrates the powerful relationship between artisans and consumers as a vehicle for change.

  • CATHs

CATHs founder Catherine De Groote incorporates eco-friendly practices in every aspect of her company. As a jewelry designer, her concern for using environmentally responsible materials is apparent throughout the production process. She crafts her signature sculptural pieces from organic horn and bone, which are biodegradable. No chemical products are used in the manufacturing of her collection.

  • Les Indiennes

Les Indiennes produces stunning textiles and wallpapers with the ancient art of kalamkari, an extremely complex printing method that only a handful of craftsmen still practice. Les Indiennes does not use electricity in the creation of its fabrics, so it does not cause any pollution. The company provides fair trade employment for over 50 families in Southern India, all while leaving no environmental footprint.

  • Raven + Lily

Raven + Lily is committed to providing products that are made by hand, follow fair trade standards, and honor eco-friendly practices. Raven + Lily uses recycled bullet casings to make beautiful contemporary jewelry and repurposes discarded fabric to create its apparel collections. These eco-friendly efforts eliminate landfill waste and save energy.

  • Studio Patro

“Use Cloth Not Paper” is Studio Patro’s brand motto, prompting us to think twice before reaching for another paper towel. Thanks to their charming, hand-printed kitchen textiles, it’s not hard to be on board with this environmental initiative. Their linen products are inherently eco-friendly—flax has a short growing cycle, is quickly renewable, and every part of the plant is used.
