DARA is proud to showcase the work of the artisanal workers of Ethiopia with LemLem. LemLem’s founder, model Liya Kebede, has long been active in promoting the work of her native country’s women; she once served as the World Health Organization‘s Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. Since 2009, LemLem has employed Ethiopia’s best traditional weavers to produce work of exceptional quality and sophistication. LemLem’s weavers mine a craft tradition that extends back for centuries, throughout which these crafts—hand-weaving, hand-spinning, and embroidery—were treasured art forms. Now, LemLem’s craftspeople produce home goods, clothing, and accessories with a notably contemporary look—an admirable juxtaposition of age-old techniques and modern styling.
DARA Artisans promotes cultural curiosity and a sense of discovery by offering a sophisticated edit of handmade artisan crafts to an audience seeking authentic, responsibly sourced designs with a modern aesthetic.
